More Benefit than You'd Expect
From Mike Rozos of Asheville, North Carolina on .
I'm going to disagree with Brian M., but just slightly.
I installed the 332mm front kit on my 1995 M3 3.0 and they work flawlessly. They have less initial bite than the stock fronts. You will not notice an increase in stopping power on the street with street pads, but you may notice more progressive pedal feel which is more important.
Here's the real benefit of a big brake kit I'd forgotten, and the reason I think the rear set may be worth it:
1. You can pop the pads in and out easily without removing the caliper; perfect for track day!
2. You do not need to dread fluid changes: The drain plugs are pointed UP! Removing air, or getting rid of boiled fluid takes a few seconds! Priceless!!
I also bought a set of LTW5 wheels in 17x8" size which required a 3mm spacer to clear. The stock wheels cannot possibly clear the ST40. The LTW5 in 17x8.5" supposedly does not need spacing.
Do not dread the grinding to must do to the spindle: It takes a minute per side with almost any type grinder, dremel, or any other gizmo you prefer, and is impossible to screw up.
StopTech is the best!
From Brian M. of Raleigh, North Carolina on .
I'm now on my second set of StopTechs - the first set turned my E39 M5 from an average lapping car to a "run with the best" monster, where I could out-brake almost anything on the track. Now on my E36, I'm able to go another 50-150 feet deeper than before, while having a much longer lasting pad and rotor and with a much easier pad change to go along with it. The perfect complement to the euro 3.2L engine which now powers our track car.
You really only need a front kit, unless you're into bling, then get a four wheel kit.
