Bought my car at the beginning of 2014, a 2000 M Roadster. The first BMW I'd ever owned. The incredible braking performance was one of the first things I noticed on the pre-purchase test drive. So intense, almost "binary," truly wonderful. Soon, though, I had to do a complete overhaul of the brakes. I chose Hawk HPS pads sort of on impulse, without doing any research. DISASTROUSLY poor choice. They had awful initial bite, felt lousy when cold and even worse when heated up... (Kind of felt like I had rigged up the brakes from some other lower end vehicle.) AND, to top it off, they started squealing after about 600 miles. After planning, research, consulting with message boards... I kept the same ~2000 mile rotors that I'd put on very recently, didn't need to do any flushing or bleeding.. changed them out for a set of these Performance Friction pads - - a WORLD of difference. I really think that I've recaptured all of that original wonderful braking that the OEM pads offered, without the chronic dusting problem that they're famous for. Fantastic initial bite, and, on public roads I have not been able to fade them. Buy these. Seriously, you will not regret it!!
Excellent dual-purpose pad

I was quite uncertain how these pads would perform both on the street and on the track, since "hybrid" street/track pads have a reputation for not working well when cold during street driving, nor when hot during track diving (classic jack of all trades, master of none dilemma). After driving on these pads for 1,000 miles, I have been pleasantly surprised by them in both arenas. Once bedded in, they bite considerably harder when cold than the Akebono ceramic street pads I had in my full-weight '98 BMW 328is. When they get a little heat in them, they stop the car noticeably harder yet. They held up beautifully during a full day of HPDE road course lapping in my 3,100lb+ 328is on 280 tread wear summer tires with an instructor riding shotgun. The brake pedal was rock solid the entire day, and they never exhibited any signs of strain.Brake dust is minimal to moderate. They dust more than ceramic street pads (which are virtually dustless), but far less than OEM BMW pads or full race pads.They are silent when cold, although when you get some heat in them, they squeak just the slightest amount ONLY when depressing the brake pedal just enough to have the pads barely contact the rotor surface. If you depress the brake pedal hard enough to actually slow the car down, they are silent at all temps. In other words, squeaking is a non-issue.These are truly wonderful dual-purpose brake pads for cars that are both street driven and are used for HPDE. I will certainly be buying these again when the time comes. Highly recommended!

Excellent Pad for HPDEs

These pads are great on the street, but get some heat in them and they bite like mad on the track. I'm an Instructor for NASA and I have freaked out many of my fellow instructors with the braking power of these pads. I'm sure the more track-oriented PF pads deliver the goods even more dramatically, but I have never managed to fade these pads in any way in a typical session. Just get some heat in them during your out-lap and they will do you proud. Highly recommended and I have converted a number of folks to these pads and all are more than satisfied.

If you take your daily driver to the track you have to find a compromise between the quietness, initial bite, and low dust of OEM-style pads, or the high-temperature hardcore stopping power for the track. This pad sits squarely in the middle. It is completely quiet and fairly low-dust, but the initial bite does not compare to OEM-style pads. No more one-toe braking. The intial bite improves dramatically after a proper bedding in, but it's still not what you're used to. When these reach operating temperature they really shine. On the track they bite way harder than your stock pads and won't fade during a casual track day. As a guy who drives his car to work and does 3 or 4 track days a year, this seems like a perfect compromise.
