Peake Research R5/FCX-3 BMW Engine Scan/Reset Tools

Whether you work on your own car or you just want to verify that you are not getting taken to the cleaners when servicing your car, this tool is a must have and can save you big money. The Peake R5/FCX-3 Series tools pull a wide range of engine and warning light codes from your BMW and tell you exactly what is going on with your car. Fits most models from 1987 to 2007. Some models require a adaptors. Please refer to the following compatibility list.

The R5/FCX-3 Compatibility Table

The R5/FCX-3 line was designed to offer compatibility with most BMW models ranging from 1987 to 2003, plus many 04's. There are a small number of known incompatibilities, and certain R5/FCX-3 models will not cover certain years or models of BMWs. Please find the year range of your BMW application in the table below. Then take a look at the Known Incompatibilities at the bottom of this page to make sure your BMW is fully compatible.

*The R5/FCX-3 plugs into the round diagnostic port. This port also comes in some of the following cars past the 2000 date - please verify if you have one of these cars:
00 M5 - May have both a round diagnostic port and the OBD II connector. If the round port is present under the hood, the R5/FCX-3 tool must be used.
01 740i
01 750i
01 X5 (most)
01 M coupe & M roadster
01 and 02 Z3s (not all but we think about 1/3)

Known Incompatibilities:
Unfortunately, we do not offer an R5/FCX-3 for the following cars, however we do offer the basic oil service and inspection tool for the older BMWs on the list.

• 1987 316.. (service reset only, adaptor required)
• 1987 325 (service reset only, adaptor required)
• 1987 325e (service reset only, adaptor required)
• 1987 325es (service reset only, adaptor required)
• 1987 535i/is (service reset only, adaptor required)
• 1987 635.. (service reset only, adaptor required)
• 1987 L6 (service reset only, adaptor required)
• 1987 735.. (service reset only, adaptor required)
• 1987 L7 (service reset only, adaptor required)
• 1988 M5 (service reset only, adaptor required)
• 1988 528 (528 not compatible, 528e is compatible)
• 1988 535... (service reset only, adaptor required)
• 1987-1990 (1st generation, E30 M3s, made before 1991)
• Many 12 cylinder BMWs especially 87-92 (replacing of a single ECU often results in compatibility problems)
• Will not reset the CBS maintenance system found on the 745 and many 05+ models. (see below)

Note: a dash (-) after the model year means any model beginning with this year. If you do not see your exact model in the above incompatibility list, and it was built between 1987 and 2003 then the R5/FCX-3 will work on your BMW.
