Internals as clean and attractive
as the external packaging, filled with undeniable Moton
race-winning heritage
Moton is a well-known name in racing
and high-end performance worldwide. Founded in 1999 armed
with 10 years of damper design and manufacturing, Moton quickly
assumed the role of the leader in state-of-the-art adjustable
dampers. By June 2000, 30 percent of the Le Mans field was
running the recognizable orange damper. Since that time,
Moton dampers have won championships in FIA GT-N, FIA GT and FIA
Sportscar, World Challenge Touring and GT, Grand-Am and Grand-Am
Cup, the Belgium GT, British GT, French GT, Italian GT, 24 Hours of
SPA, 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as well as
numerous regional and national club titles all over the
world.
Owned by damper guru Jerome van
Gool, Moton is soley a performance damper manufacturer. This unique
position, without partners, corporate ownership, or internal
competition from other projects or divisions, puts Moton in the
unique position to carry out van Gool's vision of uncompromised
design and quality in which the product speaks for itself. This
ideal carries directly into the Street Sport Single damper line,
which is an extension of the Motorsport racing damper line, not a
watered-down version with cheaper parts and design compromises to
meet mass-market demands. Your Moton Street Sport Single
receives the same loving care and exacting assembly and testing
that is given to the $15,000 damper set destined to win Le Mans,
without compromise.
This Ultra-Premium damper doesn't
just get built on the Motorsport race damper production line - the
Moton Street Sport Single contains many of the exact same parts
that have won these numerous races and championships as well.
The only design and component changes are a result of the packaging
demands of a non-remote reservoir strut and shock and never a cost
constraint. In fact, due to the side-loading of a strut car
and internal component requirements necessary in a high-gas
pressure strut, Moton's investment in design and internal parts
increased to produce this damper.
Design Highlights
- Monotube design shares parts with
proven Motorsport dampers, including complete shaft assembly - the
only parts that aren't shared are the damper body and internal gas
reservoir
- Separate aluminum gas reservoir
with floating piston in struts for durability - extremely important
to extend lifespan of a bottom-clamped strut in a BMW
suspension
- Large main piston for quick
response
- 22mm shaft diameter provides
extremely capable low-speed damping control
- No pre-load needed on valve stack
at the main piston to reduce operating temperatures - overheating
leads many other brands to fade with extended use
- Double piston design on struts
(aluminum pistons with twin Teflon piston bands) provides increased
stability when running slicks or other excessive side-load
environments
Build
Specifications
- Components machined from the best
materials available with extremely narrow tolerances - there are no
cost reductions tucked away inside a pretty
package
- Teflon coated shaft guide bushings
for reduced friction
- CrMo chrome plated and induction
hardened shafts
- Same damper oil as Motorsport
racing dampers - some brands use cheap oil in their cheaper, less
adjustable shocks
- Dampers are automatically vacuum
filled with shock oil using specialized equipment to eliminate gas
inside the oil
Adjustment
- Top-mounted rebound knob gives 15
positions of adjustment through the same range and with the same
rebound damping curves as Motorsport dampers
- Compression adjusts in conjunction
with rebound adjustment (not independently adjustable, so not a
true double-adjustable damper)
- Unique rebound adjustment system
opens and closes precisely drilled orifices at the shaft end
instead of relying on the flow of oil around a needle valve.
This makes shock changes precise and repeatable, which is not
always typical of a less expensive needle-valve system
- Every click of adjustment is
noticeable to the driver
Performance
- 22mm shaft diameter and resulting
low-speed damping control allows use of lower spring rates for
street and light track applications while still maintaining
platform control to resist roll and dive/squat
- When used with higher spring rates
for more direct platform control, damping curves provide a minimal
increase of jarring ride qualities on the street and virtually
eliminate bounciness on even the
bumpiest racetracks
- Wide range of spring rates can be
used (not included in damper-only set) - contact your sales
representative to determine your requirements
- Responsive damper adjustment
provides a quick transformation from spouse-approved street manners
to track animal - no more adjustment knob placebo effect to leave
you wondering what you changed
Packaging
- Easy installation on
car
- Threaded-body front struts include
spring perches for 2.25” springs and plastic adapter rings for 60mm
springs
- Dampers are rebuildable for a long
service life and revalvable (we would rarely advocate the
need)
The Moton Street Sport Single damper set comes with dampers, front
spring perches, top attachment nuts, and rebound adjustment
knobs. Springs, rear ride-height adjusters, and rear shock
mounts are required and available separately or as a complete
package with dampers. Camber plates also available, but not
required.
