BimmerWorld has brought the
ultra-high performance and reputation of ClutchMasters into the BMW
market. ClutchMasters build clutch kits for a broad range of BMW
applications in multiple stages to suit your driving needs, from
street to devoted track car. Each "Stage" is specifically designed
and engineered for specific power outputs, street/track uses, and
driving styles and needs. These clutches represent years of R&D
work to create a solid clutch kit that's easy on your drivetrain
but get the power to the ground effectively.
Built exclusively for us, these
BimmerWorld-spec kits start out as new Sachs clutches.
The kit isn't just a beefed up Sachs unit, the real magic is in the
casting of the pressure plate that clamps on the
disc. The
BimmerWorld/ClutchMaster's Power Plus pressure plate uses a high leverage
design with a ductile iron casting to significantly increase plate
load while keeping excessive pedal pressure at a bare minimum. Not
only does this feature reduce aggressive pedal pressure that can
wear your leg out on the street and track, it reduces the amount of
load against the crankshaft reducing thrust bearing wear, throw-out
bearing wear, and crank walk. The pressure plate also features a
reinforced, FOUR strap design and heavy duty rivets for increased
longevity and strength during hard driving. These areas in a stock
pressure plate do no last with aggressive street and track
driving.
Stage 1- Organic Steel Back Heavy Duty Street System (Picture
1)
The Stage 1 uses the Power Plus pressure plate with a custom
heavy-duty steel back organic friction disc for 70% more holding
capacity over a stock clutch assembly. It is specifically designed
for extended wear and additional clamping force needed for
heavy-duty street use, autocross, and fairly stock street cars
participating in open track/driving schools. The disc incorporates
a solid hub to work in conjunction with the stock dual mass
flywheel design for smooth engagement*. It features only slightly
increased pedal pressure, longer life than stock, and normal clutch
feel during engagement and disengagement for a very smooth
operation.
Stage 2 - Kevlar Steel Back System (Picture 2)
The Stage 2 uses the Power Plus pressure plate and a steel
backed Kevlar disc for 70% more holding capacity over a stock
clutch assembly. This clutch is designed for the medium-modified
street car that sees numerous autocrosses and driving school/track
days per year. The Stage 2 offers similar torque holding capacity
to the Stage 1, however, it's life expectancy is increased 2-3
times with the Kevlar disc. The Kevlar friction material is
non-abrasive and doesn't score the mating surfaces. The disc
incorporates a solid hub to work in conjunction with the stock dual
mass flywheel design for smooth engagement*. It features only
slightly increased pedal pressure, significantly longer life than
stock, and normal clutch feel during engagement and disengagement
for the smoothest operation of any stage we offer. The downside to
this clutch is it must be broken in properly. An improper break-in of a
Kevlar clutch will great reduce longevity and clutch
hold.
Stage 3 - Segmented Kevlar Steel Back System (Picture
3)
The Stage 3 uses the Power Plus pressure plate with a steel
back segmented Kevlar disc for 110% more holding capacity over a
stock clutch assembly. This clutch is designed for the highly tuned
street cars seeing numerous autocrosses and driving school/track
days per year. The Stage 3 features slightly increased pedal
pressure, long life disc, and positive engagement. The disc
incorporates a solid hub to work in conjunction with the stock dual
mass flywheel design for smooth engagement*. The clutch engagement
is a bit more firm than the Stage 2. The downside to this clutch is
it must be
broken in properly. An improper break in of a Kevlar clutch will
great reduce longevity and clutch hold.
Stage 4 & 4.5 - Sprung Ceramic 6 & 4 Puck System
(Picture 4, 6 Puck)
The Stage 4 uses the Power Plus pressure plate with a custom,
extremely durable, ceramic disc for 170% more holding capacity over
a stock clutch assembly. This is a great devoted track clutch for
drivers who are rulebook limited to stock diameter clutch kit. It
is available in a 4 or 6 puck configuration, with the 4-puck being
the more aggressive setup. The disc incorporates a solid hub to
work in conjunction with the stock dual mass flywheel design for
smooth engagement*. This disc is designed for long life,
outstanding holding capacity, and rapid heat dissipation. Warning:
Due to the solid (no Marcel) friction rivet design, the Stage 4
disc engages quickly (Stage 4.5 engages even harder) and can cause
increased wear on the drivetrain with abusive use. It also may
chatter slightly in first and reverse. To help alleviate this
problem, ClutchMaster only uses premium ceramic friction material.
This kit also works well for devoted track cars that do not have
the ability for an extended break in period. Ceramic breaks in
easy, especially compared to Kevlar.
Kits include throw-out bearing,
clutch disc, pressure plate.
If a ClutchMaster clutch kit is
planned to be installed in conjunction with a used flywheel the
flywheel MUST be professionally resurfaced beforehand. Failure to
resurface a used flywheel will void warranty. Please contact us for
further information concerning flywheel resurfacing.
*Applications having a
stock single mass flywheel will have a sprung hub disc. If your car
came stock with a dual mass flywheel but you plan to use an
aftermarket single mass unit, please contact us if you plan to use
a sprung hub disc. Bimmerworld also carries aluminum single mass
flywheel / sprung hub clutch kit combos.
**E30 318 (M42) will need
a different starter, flywheel, and throw out bearing. Call for
assistance.
